We love ice cream and eat it a lot. The only down side, I haven’t found a flavour which tastes amazing and isn’t overloaded with sugar, fat, artificial additives and preservatives. I decided it was time to start making my own. As I absolutely LOVE my KitchenAid stand mixer, I was delighted to discover the KitchenAid Ice Cream Maker Attachment. It consists of a bowl, paddle/dasher and drive assembly, all at a reasonable cost of £70/$100.

Having foraged some Sweet Woodruff around Bristol recently, meant while left drying, my whole flat was taken over by its delicate scent of vanilla, Amaretto, rose, and lime. I just couldn’t resist making some Sweet Woodruff Vodka Jelly, a party staple from Germany. It looks and tastes so innocent but don’t be fooled, it contains plenty of vodka and is not for the fainthearted.

I was delighted to discover Sweet Woodruff, a pretty little herb which reminds me of my childhood as it’s very popular in Germany. We are already heading towards the end of January and I haven’t had a chance to bake. I’ve been away on holiday for two weeks and also made the silly New Year’s resolution of eating less sweets, cookies and cakes, which meant no baking. Ahh, my favourite baking time of the year has finally arrived. With the start of the Advent season, my little Christmas bakery has kicked off and first in line these sensational chocolate orange cookies.

It is a tradition in German speaking countries to make many different little cookies in the weeks prior to Christmas. Whenever family and friends come to visit, they are presented with a plate of delicious little treats known as “Plätzchen”. The closer it gets to Christmas, the more Plätzchen there are to choose from.
